Frontier Silicon launches world’s 1st integrated iPhone 4 docking module with DAB and FM
“Verona2i” makes it possible for radio receiver manufacturers to produce the lowest cost WorldDMB Profile 1 radios with Apple certified iPod and iPhone docking
Hong Kong – 14th October, 2010: Frontier Silicon Ltd, the market leading supplier of digital radio technology worldwide will be demonstrating their latest DAB/DAB+/DMB-Radio/FM system module, the Verona2i , at the Hong Kong Electronics Fair (Autumn Edition). Pin and footprint compatible with the industry leading Verona module from Frontier, Verona2i adds full featured iPod and iPhone 4 docking while still meeting the exacting demands of entry level price point radios. In this high volume market segment, it is vital to remove every aspect of cost while maintaining excellent receiver sensitivity, reliable operation, good quality audio and world class technical support. Frontier Silicon has achieved this combination by utilizing its class leading Kino 3 baseband IC (integrated circuit) which integrates sufficient on-chip memory to demodulate and decode all three WorldDMB standards. The module has an ultra compact size at just 48 x 28 mm resulting in the world’s smallest FM, DAB, DAB+, DMB-Radio, iPod docking combined module.
“With the continued growth of DAB and DAB+ penetration in markets around the world the integration of digital radio into iPod and iPhone docking systems is being strongly demanded by consumers.” said Steve Evans, VP of Marketing at Frontier Silicon. “The Verona2i module has been developed to ensure that audio brands and manufacturers can bring this winning combination to the market at a range of competitive cost points, without sacrificing radio or audio performance.”
Verona2i includes all of the interfaces necessary for a fully functional radio, needing only power supply, display, keypad, audio amplifier and speaker to complete a product. A fully tested and verified three dimensional table top radio reference design and evaluation system “Venus 2i” is available to radio manufactures enabling them to develop low cost radios that are capable of achieving Apple’s “Made for iPhone” certification with the very shortest time to market. Testing is carried out in the UK and other countries where DAB/DAB+/DMB-Radio coverage is available to ensure that the module and reference design achieves excellent performance in field conditions.
Verona2i will be available to designers from November with radios expected to appear on the shelves in time for Easter 2011.
